The Omnyverse is the multi-dimensional reality cluster
constructed by the Omnymphotents to serve as their ideal play world. Created by
the Omny’s own Big Bang, the reality takes the form of a seemingly mundane
Earth, surrounded by fantastical realms and forces hidden from normal view. It
is a realm shaped by narrative causality, enabling many conflicting or
nonsensical elements to co-exist without breaking the status quo that the Omnys
desire.
This article discusses the physical structure of the
Omnyverse as a whole. Further details about the worlds within will be covered
in future articles.
BASELINE REALITY: THE FUNDAMENT
The Fundament, also known as the Baseline, is the Mundane
Universe that acts as the existential foundation of the Omnyverse. All other
universes and dimensions are built upon or branch off from the Baseline.
Strictly speaking, the Fundament as it exists in the
Omnyverse was created by the Omnys themselves, when they performed the Big Bang
to reset reality on their own terms. However, they do not consider this to
really be their creation: for the most part, all they did was copy-paste our
own reality, retroactively applying eons of history to its formation, such that
it would conform to almost exactly the reality we know. From there, existence
resumed from the moment the first Omny Ascended.
The universe is more or less the exact same world we already
know. A completely mundane reality structured by rigid laws of physics. With a
little subconscious guidance from the Omnys, conditions fell in place as the
universe formed to recreate the Milky Way Galaxy, the Solar System, and even
the Local Group of galaxies, exactly as we know it. Everything else in the
universe, however, may or may not be different, up to and including the
formation of wholly different galaxies beyond the Local Group and different
planetary systems even within the Milky Way. Essentially, the Material Universe
should be considered exactly like our own, right up until it is proven not to
be.
At the time and place that humanity exists in the cosmos, Earth is the sole host of an
intelligent species throughout the Milky Way Galaxy. Life does exist on a
handful of other planets, but none of it is capable of civilization, much less
technology. If advanced alien races did once naturally exist, they are long
since gone, and any future sapients are far from development.
Any extant “alien civilizations” are the creations of the
Omnys, as they occasionally construct alien worlds within the Baseline.
PERIPHERAL REALITY: THE SHADOW
The Shadow, also know as the Echo or the Border, is the buffer
dimension between the Fundament and the Omny Worlds. It exists in the
“peripheral perception” of the mundane Earth, co-existing alongside it, but
half a step removed across the dimensional divide.
The Shadow is an inconsistent and inexplicable dimension,
existing mostly around Earth in the form of Thrae. Islands of Shadow may also exist on select worlds across the
Solar System and possibly on alien worlds. These islands are connected
directly, making it possible to bypass galactic distances to reach alien worlds
the Omnys have established Shadows onto.
World Shards are
fragments of Omny Worlds that
manifest on Thrae, forming direct connections to nearly every other world in
the Omnyverse. These are usually only a couple miles across, and are sort of
miniature representations of their worlds. These fragments may rarely be
permanently established, but some only exist circumstantially, appearing and
disappearing when it pleases an Omny to allow it, and such fragments may even
migrate to different locations.
DREAMED REALITY: THE OMNY WORLDS
The Omny Worlds are customized realms created by the Omnymphotents
that exist as “pocket dimensions”, self contained bubbles of reality with
either hard physical limits, or space warping effects that loop the border of a
World back onto itself. While generally consistent in appearance throughout the
whole of the world, the actual size may be subject to change, given an Omny may
wish to add more terrain for new features, the Native population grows larger
and needs more space, or any number of other reasons. Likewise, an Omny may
decide that not enough of the World is actually being used, and thus may shrink
it as a result; the Baseline aside, the Omnys tend to eschew wasted space.
Temporal and spatial dimensions of the Omny Worlds may be a
twisting quagmire of scientifically immeasurable patterns. Every Omny World is
simultaneously a self-contained universe, but also connected to other Worlds
via dimensional overlapping. That is to say, a mortal inside of an Omny World
exists dimensionally separated from all other worlds, but may find very
specific locations or channels which enable them to cross over into others.
Nearly every Omny World is connected directly to Thrae via World Shards, while
each Omny’s personal Cluster of
Worlds tend to be more interconnected between each other as well.
In the case of particularly connected Worlds, seen as a
whole from an outside observer, entire “planets” or mega structures may be
formed of overlapping Omny Worlds that simultaneously co-exist and remain
separate at the same time. To the mortal mind, a World Cluster may just look
like another planet. How true this representation actually is may simply depend
on the whims of the Omny that made the Cluster.
Every Omny eventually creates her own World, with at least
one serving as her home dimension, though they may have others they have set up
to play in. Each World is usually themed after a certain fetish or genre theme
the Omny fancies, such as a medieval fantasy world where magic is common place,
a technologically enhanced cyberpunk world, a world of demihuman civilizations,
an ocean world, a world of endless sky, or any number of other variations. Some
worlds may be entire reconstructions of established fictional worlds with minor
tweaks, or at least, may be very obviously inspired by such fictions. Name any
popular video game series or television show, and at least one Omny has
probably cribbed from it at some point.
An Omny’s relationship with a given World can range wildly
depending on her personal desires. Some Omnys prefer to remain anonymous,
either acting as just another denizen or not even revealing herself at all.
Some prefer to be worshipped or feared as a Goddess or Devil by the population.
Some don’t reveal their Omny nature, but may still openly use some of their
powers as a sorceress or superhero. And this can be different for each Omny
depending on what world they are in, so an Omny worshipped in one reality may
be unknown in another.
Despite connections existing between the Worlds, many are
hidden and accessible only by the chosen few. There is very little direct overlap
or steady migration between any of the Worlds, with populations sticking to the
thematic cultures they were created for. The exception are the occasional
“crossover hubs” Omnys sometimes toy with, seeing how their civilizations will
interact, but such experiments are usually temporary, with the exception of a
few “melting pot” cities established on Thrae.
BETWEEN REALITY: THE PLANAR VOID
There is little to say about this realm, other than it is
the non-existence between dimensions, a “sea” of unreality which surrounds all
the worlds of the Omnyverse. It takes the form of rippling, iridescent mist,
the “light of creation” from the various Worlds refracting infinitely through
its nothingness.
Time and space and physics do not function here, but the
Omnymphotents can still access this realm, regularly stepping through it to
directly transport themselves across the Worlds of the Omnyverse, or using it
as a safe zone to unleash their full powers without fear of disastrous
repercussions on their Worlds.
METAFICTIONAL REALITY: THE META
The Omnymphotents
is a metafictional work, which is to say that it is a story built upon the
awareness that it is a story, and will occasionally address that fact. The Meta is the state of existence “beyond the fourth wall,” treated
as its own dimension that overlooks the rest of the Omnyverse with the detached
perspective of an auditorium.
The Omnymphotents are selectively aware that they are
characters in a story, and as such are able to “break character” at any time to
directly address readers or their author, or have discussions with similarly
aware characters from other stories, or even just with each other about how
their stories are proceeding. In the context of the Meta ,
the Omnys are simply actors playing roles, beyond their normal tendency to
roleplay for their sex games.
This does not mean the Omnys are inauthentic in their
presentation in-story; the Omnys are exactly the characters they are “playing”
as, and in fact, most Omnys usually operate under a self-inflicted restriction
to forget they are characters, until it behooves them to acknowledge that they
are.
The Meta is hence used as a
meeting ground where the characters of the Omnyverse come to discuss things
“out of character”. Only the cosmically aware are able to access this facet of
reality, which in this case mainly includes the Omnymphotents, but also
cosmically powerful beings from other multiverses, such as the Dark God Temael
and certain uniquely cognizant Fae Lords. The Meta
has no true physical manifestation, but is instead more of a psychic virtual
space.
If one were to go to the Meta
it would mostly appear to be a gray void. From here, one can gaze through the
void and concentrate to form “windows” to view any other part of the Omnyverse.
If one concentrates further into the Meta
itself, they may be able to see the very words of the stories that make up the
reality of the Omnyverse. For the most part, however, those who can access the
Meta tend to use it as a sort of psychic relay, communicating with other beings
through the Meta without physically going
there.
FORESAKEN REALITY: THE OLD CANONS
When the Omnymphotents reset their reality, they started
everything over from scratch, eschewing all the past storylines, written and
unwritten, to fully commit to the reset. Due to their cosmic awareness and
metafictional access, however, the Omnys that existed prior to the Big Bang
have not forgotten where they truly came from. To them, these past storylines
all still happened, or at least could
have happened. The echoes of pasts that never were still haunt them, even when
most of the Omnys opt not to consciously acknowledge what came before.
Despite no longer existing, the legacy of the Old Canons can
still influence the Omnyverse, even if mostly by way of influencing the
Omnymphotents’ decision. Beyond the Meta and
the Planar Void, however, those old continuities may continue to exist in some
form, in a stasis of dubious canon. For the most part, this has little impact
on the Omnyverse itself, unless of course some element or entity of the Old
Canon refuses to be forgotten.
FURTHER REALITY: THE BEYOND
In much the same way the Planar Void is the non-space
between Omny Worlds, the Beyond is the unreality between entire Multiverses. Infinite
beyond infinity, the Beyond is the ephemeral sea in which every other universe
in the Greater Multiverse drifts. There are endless ways to interpret the “form”
of the Beyond, but the simplest metaphor, what mortal minds may see were they
to peer into it, is a realm similar to outer space. A void of absolute black,
broken by iridescent stars (Multiverses as viewed from the outside) and pale
ribbon-like auroras (jetstreams of dimensional energy that flow in impossible directions
between some Multiverses).
Multiverse Clusters refer to Multiverses that are tangentially
connected, and drift closer together within the Beyond, while Super Clusters of
Multiverses refer to all Multiverses that are tethered to a singular entity or phenomenon.
In this case, the Salamando Cluster, or Erotica Cluster, is composed of all realities
conceived and written under Salamando’s erotic works. Other Clusters feature
myriad realities conceived of and written under various other pen names and
focused on other genres. The totally of all of Salamando’s works and
imaginings would be the Super Cluster.
The Omnys made sure to separate the Omnyverse well away from
all other Multiverses, but ultimately, their reality still exists at the edges
of the Erotic Cluster. Despite this, the Omnymphotents are capable of accessing
most other universes adrift in their Author’s Super Cluster. Attempting to
access any other Super Cluster on their own is beyond their
capabilities, however, as that would require collaboration between Salamando and
another Author.
